Art club is after school Monday for 4th and 5th grade and Thursday for 6-8th grade. Students do not have to be an art major to join the Art Club. We work with a variety of media and we do things like get involved in school plays, by painting set designs, make banners, signs, posters, lettering, portraits, caricutures, cartoons etc. It is a place for students who like art and to be with other students who feel the same and learn from one another. It is also a place for art students who want more time to perfect their skills. The club sessions are over at 4:30pm and students must have a ride home to join. Sign up forms are located in the Art Room.

Mime Team
The Sallie B Howard Mime Team is a direct product of the Sallie B Howard School for the Arts and Education, located in Wilson, NC, where the director is Dr. JoAnn Woodard. The vision was birthed and realized by Dr. Woodard and has continued to flourish for many years.
The team consists of boys ages 7 to 13 of multi-racial decent and is currently under the guidance and direction of Dennis Horne with Terri Purvis serving as administrative assistant
They are a ministry of pantomime using both dramatic and theatrical techniques, combined with gospel music, to declare and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Using praise and worship, their sole desire is to minister to the mind, body, spirit and soul.
It is never to early to “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it”, and may even rise up to train others.

Tae Kwon Do

Man has been endowed with the natural impulse to survive dangerous situations, using whatever tools are available. If caught in such a situation, man could possibly wield a weapon to defend himself, but weapons are not always available. Therefore, man needs to learn how to use his own body as a weapon. Thus opens the history books on the martial arts. Ta Kwon Do is dynamic, requires strength, flexibility, endurance, discipline, and courage. For the practitioner there are many benefits like improving his/her flexibility, strength, power, self confidence a more disciplined life and a healthy lifestyle.
Sallie B Howard School has an international and multicultural vision so we offer this activity not only for our students but for the entire Wilson community, delivering this wonderful benefit to everyone.
We opened our Ta Kwon Do school in 2004 and in the spring of 2008 we will be graduating our first black belt generation.
